”I’d rather not assume any feelings about a person I haven’t even met yet. And, honestly, I *don’t* mind meeting just anyone- why should I close myself off to someone before meeting them?”
But you do close yourself off to someone if you don’t take the time to make your first contact with them personalized. Because what you’ve done is said “you’re not worth me wasting my time”. I can tell when a letter is generic, but the time I spent reading it to figure that out is now time wasted, time which could have been better spent either reading a personalized letter or not receiving a letter at all. It’s an insult. Which isn’t to say that I think a random stranger owes me anything at all, least of all a letter… unless they expect something in return, like a response. Then yes, you do owe me 5 minutes of your time treating me like a real unique individual, not a generic person on the internet.
Edit: what is this post format I don’t even.
