I made this to put on a shirt for this year’s PrideFest.
Image of Leslie Nielson in the movie Airplane. Caption reads “I am serious, and don’t call me ‘she’.”
I think it is necessary still, and will continue to be until society stops demonizing people for being themselves. As soon as we’re all legally and socially respected the same, then pride won’t even be an issue anymore.

I saw someone doing this on tumblr, so I decided to copy it. If you are a transman and proud I suggest taking a photo of yourself with the same saying and post it. :)
I agree with the first part 100%: “Just because I wasn’t born a boy doesn’t mean I can’t become a better man”. It’s just the last part that gets me: “than you could ever hope to be.”
Yes, pride matters. Yes, everyone has the right to become a better man, if they so desire. But are we really going to make our pride contingent upon our own genders being better than other people’s hopes for themselves? I know you’re probably not saying “ha! my trans manliness trumps your cis hopefullness!”, but it really does come across that way.
To me, part of becoming a better person is putting aside the interpersonal competitions and the sizing each other up, and to find my place within the local and global community. I hope we all are able to become the best version of ourselves we could ever hope to be.
